Explain how technology can enhance or inhibit learning + observation report

I have written an observation report and have explained how technology can enhance or inhibit learning.

The website www.tinyurl.com was used to create a short and easily accessible web address with minimum navigation required because some students had very low IT skills. The websites on tinyurl.com/acton329 were used to encourage students’ independent learning, to reduce the amount of worksheets used and to improve students’ Internet navigation skills.

The technology has given the opportunity to use the games and exercises at home, and students who missed the lesson could catch up at home.

Only one elderly student found it difficult to use the mouse so she was advised to use the websites which require very little navigation. She is learning to use the mouse gradually with help from the teacher and the students. She needs much more time learn mouse skills. She will not able to practice at home because she doesn't have a computer.

Completing tasks using technology can be difficult and sometimes impossible for older students, so it is always good idea to have paper based alternatives.

3. Download a You Tube (and other) videos so you can play them offline.

  • Use www.keepvid.com
  • Choose a video and copy URL into keepvid
  • Click on the small download button (big one will take you to adverts)
  • Choose MP4 format
  • Use can use a video offline now

4. Convert media from one format to another using ZAMZAR
  • Upload a video - for example MP4
  • Choose a format you want - for example AVI and type your e-mail address
  • Open your e-mail and click on the link
  • Click download (a little one)

5. Create a YouTube playlist and share it with students

6. Upload a video you have recorded to your own YouTube channel.

  • I uploaded a video which I created about Christmas using Windows Movie Maker using various photos and audio files which I downloaded from Youtube.

Working with Audio

We are creating and audio podcasts using www.audioboo.com to communicate a message to other people using another form of multimedia.

I created this audioboo for students who are preparing for their FS ICT Level 1 exam which involves quick revision tips. This kind of audio recording can be recorded on the computer or on the phone and posted online for other people to listen. It is similar like voice message but can be posted online for free, for example on to the blog, and can be listened by many people.

Youtube.com
Youtube is a very useful tools for educators. Many useful tutorials or online lessons are posted on Youtube. Students can access those videos on their own time and can watch them many times. Particullary useful tool is the possibility to create playlists on Youtube for students to watch. For example I created a playlist on Youtube about Working with fractions where I placed 5 videos about how to work with fractions.

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsNVyNF1WkkTv-a6DakAXCswTXqJDBZrb

Students were able to watch the videos at home in their own time, revise the topic again and again if they forget how to add, subtract, multiply or divide fractions.

Youtube contains a massive amount of videos but it can be quite difficult to find what you need and take a long time to preview the videos in order to evaluate and choose the suitable ones.
